San Jose, CA
This project envisions transforming a large underdeveloped site with a historic home into a growing cohousing community that provides a safe, supportive environment for residents. In order to maximize the zoning potential of the property, a second home and two spacious ADUs will be build at the rear of the existing structure, oriented around a large central courtyard. The four homes, with their playful indoor/outdoor connectivity, form a harmonious core for the community, and allows for potential future expansion as surrounding properties become available. The design celebrates the rich architectural heritage of the neighborhood, transitioning from the restored historic front home, to the modern cottage behind, and finally two the two Eichler-esque ADUs at the rear.
