As Director of Housing for MWA Architects until 2018, Principal Brianne Steinhauser oversaw the renovation design for this 13-story, 200-unit affordable senior community built in the 1970s. The primary goals of the renovations were to upgrade the overall systems, finishes, and a portion of the units for accessibility, and to redesign the ground floor to promote resident emotional health and wellness through increased engagement with the neighbors, staff, and the greater Westlake community. The majority of units were moderately renovated with new cabinetry, countertops, lighting, and paint. In addition, exterior doors, windows, and some of the exterior finish materials were replaced throughout.
In 2018, as Brianne joined Gunkel Architecture, the client hired Gunkel Architecture as the Owner’s Construction Representative, providing continuity, collaboration, and oversight to the construction-related communications between the owner, construction and design team. Renovations were complete in April 2021.
